That Was Easy!

The first treatment, prolotherapy, was a breeze. Using ultrasound, the doctor informed me that there was very little inflammation (good to know the anti-inflammatory diet is working).  He then proceeded with the four injections to inject an irritant into the problem areas of the knee.  The first one was on the outside in the fatty tissue.  The other three were on the inside of the knee, in the not so fatty area, in fairly close proximity.  All were targeting the weakened cartilage and meniscus tear.  This will create an inflammatory response which will trigger the healing process.  So far, I irritate it a whole lot more when I run, hike or rebuild fences!  Right now my back is more sore than my knee, since I tweaked it on Saturday while repairing the fence.

Was it painful?  No.  I have felt mosquitos bite me with more force than what I felt today.  And they were no where near the level of the hyaluronic acid injections, which were only painful when the intern-of-the-day hit the bone.  Those injections also used a bigger needle to accommodate the thickness of the serum.

I did pick up a prescription to make sure I sleep on Wednesday night (sleep is crucial to the healing process).  The script called for a 30 day supply; but my insurance rejected it, as it was the first time I had the drug, so they gave me a 7 day supply.  I'm guessing it is still 6 more than I need!  What is it, you may be asking?  Hydrocodone with Tylenol.  Don't try calling me on Wednesday night!

May the next step be as easy.

UPDATE:  Woke up to a stiff and angry knee; but, that was cured with movement and a hot shower.  There is a little bit of bruising around the injection site on the inside of the knee.
