Week 6!

Today marks 6 weeks since the stem cells were moved from my hips to my knee.  This week also marks round 2 of physical therapy (I had to get a new order for another round of 8 sessions).  This round will take me through the end of March.

At this stage, remodeling is going on in the knee.  What is that?  That is where the tissue is becoming stronger, functional and closer to normal.  This stage can go for about 6 months with total healing occurring anywhere between 6 and 12 months.

Overall I am seeing good results; but then I have days like yesterday when the knee reminds me that there is still stuff going on in there and just randomly (and not so randomly) sends out pain signals in different areas around the kneecap.  Thank you Mr. Arthur Itis - and don't get me started on Mr. Baker's Cyst, he can have it back!  Or it may be due to either over stress (the not so random pain signal), or the tissue breaking down in order to rebuild more improved.  I just have to keep reminding myself to give it time!

6 weeks also marks:

  • The end of having to wear the knee brace on a daily basis (except as needed for moderate or high impact activities).  I plan on wearing it through Friday as that officially marks 6 weeks for the last needle going into my knee.
  • Gradual return to full functional activity.

I am pretty much already doing everything I did prior to the procedure; though not at the same frequency.  It is time to step it up!
